Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Nestie mobile application (the "App") and the website at usenestie.com (together, the "Service") collect, use and protect your information. The Service is developed and operated by Rainer Llera Menocal, based in Barcelona, Spain ("we", "us" or "the Service Provider").
Nestie is a shared space for two people running a home together. Most of the data in Nestie is content you and your partner choose to add: chores, expenses, meal plans, wishlists, memories and messages. This policy describes that data, the small amount of data collected automatically, and the choices you have.
Two commitments up front:
- We do not sell your personal data.
- The App shows no third-party advertising.
1. Information you provide
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, your name and an optional profile photo. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address (or Apple's private relay address) that those services share with us. You can also try Nestie as a guest, in which case a random account identifier is created without any personal details until you decide to create a full account.
Nest content. The content you add to your nest is stored so it can sync between you and your partner: chores and their schedules, expenses, budgets and receipts, meal plans, recipes and grocery lists, wishlist items, moments (photos, notes, dates and optional places), planned events, prizes and messages you send each other.
Photos and their metadata. Photos you attach are uploaded to our storage so they can appear on both partners' devices. When you share a photo into the App, we read its embedded capture date and location (EXIF data), when present, only to suggest a date and a place for the memory you are saving. You can always change or remove these before saving.
Content you share into the App. When you share a link, image or document into Nestie (for example a recipe link or a product page), we process it to suggest a structured item such as a recipe, wishlist item or expense. See Section 6 for how this works.
Support. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
2. Information collected automatically
When you use the App, the following is collected automatically:
- Device and app information: device model, operating system version, app version, language and app-generated identifiers used to operate the Service.
- Usage analytics: anonymous-by-design events about how the App is used (for example which features are opened), collected through Google Analytics for Firebase to help us understand what works and fix what does not.
- Push notification tokens: a device token that lets us deliver notifications, managed through OneSignal.
- Purchase status: if you subscribe to Nestie Pro, we receive subscription status and purchase history from the app stores through RevenueCat. We never see or store your payment card details; payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
The Site itself does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
3. Location information
The App does not track your location in the background. Location is used only in these specific, visible moments:
- when you search for a place (for example to attach a location to a memory), the text you type is sent to Google's Places service to return matching places;
- when you pick a spot on the map, the coordinates you choose are saved with that item;
- when a photo you share includes a location in its metadata, we use it to suggest a place, as described above.
4. Sharing between you and your partner
Sharing is what Nestie is for, so it deserves its own section. Content you add to a nest is visible to the other member of that nest, and theirs is visible to you. This includes chores, expenses and budgets, meals, wishlists (except surprises the App explicitly hides), moments and messages. Only invite someone you trust with this information.
If you leave a nest or delete your account, content that belongs to the shared nest (for example the chore history or shared photos) may remain available to your former partner, since it is part of their home too. Your account details are removed as described in Section 9.
5. How we use your information
- to provide the Service: syncing your nest between you and your partner across devices;
- to send notifications you'd expect, such as a message from your partner or a chore reminder, which you can turn off;
- to process purchases and unlock Nestie Pro features;
- to understand aggregate usage and improve the App;
- to provide support when you contact us;
- to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse;
- to comply with legal obligations.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service), your consent where required, and legal obligations.
6. AI features and your data
Some features use AI models to turn what you share into something useful. When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to Google's Gemini models (accessed through Firebase) to extract the amount and details. When you share an image, PDF or link into the App, its content is analyzed the same way to suggest a recipe, wishlist item or expense.
- Regular web pages you share are read on your device where possible; when that fails, the page address may be fetched through Jina AI's reader service.
- Links to public social media posts (for example a recipe video) are fetched server-side through the ScrapeCreators API, which retrieves only the public post content.
- We use AI providers to power these features for you, not to build advertising profiles, and we do not use your content to train our own AI models.
7. Service providers we rely on
We use a small set of third-party services to run Nestie. They process data on our behalf, under their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions, remote configuration and Firebase AI): the backbone that stores and syncs your nest. Firebase privacy
- Google Analytics for Firebase (usage analytics). Google privacy
- Google Gemini API (AI features described in Section 6). Google privacy
- RevenueCat (subscription management). RevenueCat privacy
- OneSignal (push notification delivery). OneSignal privacy
- Google Places API (place search) and Apple Maps / Google Maps (map display on iOS and Android respectively).
- ScrapeCreators (fetching public social media posts you share into the App).
- Jina AI reader (fallback for reading web pages you share into the App).
- Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In (optional sign-in methods).
Beyond these providers, we only disclose personal information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety or security of the Service and its users. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.
8. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on Google Cloud servers located in the United States. If you use Nestie from outside the United States, including from the European Economic Area, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States. Where the GDPR applies, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses implemented by our providers.
9. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists, so your nest is there when you come back. You can delete your account at any time from the settings inside the App, or by emailing rainer.dev.apps@gmail.com from the address associated with your account.
When you delete your account, your account details and your personal data are deleted from our systems, except for limited copies that may persist for a short period in routine backups and for records we are legally required to keep. Content that belongs to a shared nest may remain available to the other member, as described in Section 4. Aggregated analytics that cannot identify you may be retained.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to the processing of, or delete your personal data, and the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Residents of the European Economic Area have these rights under the GDPR and may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. Residents of California and some other U.S. states have similar rights under their state privacy laws; as stated above, we do not sell or share personal data as those laws define it.
Much of this you can do directly in the App: edit your profile, change or delete content, and delete your account. For anything else, email rainer.dev.apps@gmail.com and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires.
11. Security
We take the security of your nest seriously. Data is encrypted in transit, stored on infrastructure with industry-standard protections, and guarded by access rules that restrict each nest's content to its members. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we design the Service so that the private things you share stay between the two of you.
12. Children
Nestie is made for adults sharing a home and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the higher minimum age that applies in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at rainer.dev.apps@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will give you notice through the App or the Site before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after an updated policy takes effect means the updated policy applies to you.
14. Contact
The Service is operated by Rainer Llera Menocal, Barcelona, Spain. For any question about this policy or your data, or to exercise your rights, write to rainer.dev.apps@gmail.com. You can also review our Terms of Service.
